The GEICO Honda 250cc team turned in one of its best performances of the 2015 Pro Motocross season, with two riders finishing in the top-five overall and a third in the top 10 of the season finale, the Bud Light Ironman National on Saturday at Ironman Raceway.

R.J. Hampshire followed up a career-best seventh last week by barely missing the podium in Indiana. He was eighth in the first moto and fourth in the second for a fourth-place overall.

Matt Bisceglia posted his second consecutive top-five finish, and Christian Craig bounced back from a troubled back last week to finish eighth overall.

Hampshire’s fourth in the second moto was his career-best, as was his overall fourth-place finish.

“I’m stoked about that,” Hampshire said. “All in all, a good weekend and a good way to end the season. We finished 10th (in points), so that’s a good thing, too.”

The rookie showed flashes of speed this season, with nine top-10 moto finishes in the first 10 races, but he displayed consistency in the final two events, finishing eighth or better in all four motos.

“The day went pretty good,” Hampshire said. “The first moto, I almost had the holeshot, but I was running second when I had a tip-over and fell back to about 10th. I worked my way back up to eighth and was feeling good, so I brought that into the second moto.

“I got a not-so-great start in the second moto and then put my head down and went to work. I was 14th or 15th the first lap but kept picking riders off. I ended up coming up to Matt with about three to go and ended up fourth.”

Bisceglia went 6-5 for his second straight overall fifth. Bisceglia ended up eighth in the 250 points standings, the highest of the GEICO Honda team.

“Good day,” Bisceglia said. “I had some fun and ended up fifth overall. It was definitely a good way to end the season. I finished out strong and finished eighth in points. Ideally, I would’ve liked to have finished like this all year, but it took me to the last couple races to get there. But I’m happy to be up in fifth these last two rounds and finish out strong. It was good.”

Back issues limited Craig in Utah last week, but he returned to finish 9-8 in Indiana.

“The day was all right,” Craig said. “I qualified third and was feeling good. My back was feeling better from last weekend, so that was a positive. I wanted to end this season on a high note, but I was running toward the front in the first moto and ended up going down. A banner got stuck in my bike, so it took me a while to get going. I was 15th but caught back up to ninth and felt really good in that moto.”

His start in the second moto wasn’t the best, but he still managed to rally from 15th.

“Pain started to kick in on my back,” Craig said. “I just kinda rode around, and it was hard to hang on. There was a lot of pain from the rough track, so I rode it out and finished eighth. I definitely wanted more, but we’re safe and moving on.”

Jordon Smith crashed in the first moto and was taken to a local hospital.
